SYNOPSIS

Earthquakes have opened tears, often never mended, in Italy’s fragile geological and social fabric, leaving deep traces on the territory. After the earthquake that struck Abruzzo in 2009, photographer Francesca Cao embarked on a journey of mapping the area, in search of residues of past earthquakes, emergency architectures, attempted and missed reconstructions, which have marked the post-sismic landscape, also in the ways and forms of living of the affected communities.
