Francesca Cao's photographic practice spans two distinct bodies of work. Her early projects — Temporary Life, Hidden Identities, The Lion of Central Asia, In God We Trust, and 11 Dollars — are rooted in documentary photography, exploring transience, identity, and place through direct observation.

Her more recent work, Anatomy of a Fracture and On Becoming a Wolf, marks a shift toward fine art photography through Errore Metodico™, a patented analogue process based on the controlled partial overlap of multiple frames on a single negative — where fallibility becomes a generative principle.
